Dean has over 30 years experience in the building industry where he started as an apprentice carpenter in 1976 with a small building company working in the residential and commercial sector. He finished apprenticeship with a shop fitting company and continued to work with them through the eighties on sites such as Centre Point Tower Mid City Centre, Macquarie Centre North Ryde, East Gardens Maroubra and numerous shopping centres. Through the nineties, Dean returned to residential carpentry work and then back to the commercial sector as a leading hand carpenter. Dean joined the Master Builders in 2007 as Trade and Technical Officer and is now in charge of Accreditation for Training that is run through the Master Builders.

Qualifications: Carpentry Certificate III, Certificate IV in Building Residential, Certificate in Building Thermal Performance and Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.

Dean’s hobbies include surfing and golf.

Business Planning & Marketing Strategy Officer

Jana (Ronjana) Kalyanpur brings a wealth of international experience to her exciting new role at the Master Builders as the Business Planning & Marketing Strategy Officer for the training department. She has over 12 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, Business Planning & Strategy, having worked in the UK, Dubai, India and now Australia since 2002. Jana has travelled extensively and enjoys experiencing different cultures.

Jana has a Bachelors degree in English and a Masters degree in Business with a major in Marketing from the Macquarie Graduate Management School. She is dedicated to life-long learning and truly believes anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Jana enjoys creative hobbies and keeping active!

Mark Diamond
International Building Qualifications Assessor

Mark is from Wellington, New Zealand and has been living in Sydney with his wife and child since January this year. He started work with MBA in June 2009 in a newly created role as International Building Qualifications Assessor. One of Mark’s roles with this position is to ‘map’ overseas qualifications to the Australian equivalent so trade people can gain the required license to work legally in their chosen trade within Australia.

Mark achieved two trades back in NZ, Green keeping/Landscaping and Carpentry. He also worked for the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) who are the standard setting body in New Zealand. Mark’s role with the BCITO was to develop learning and assessment material for 8000 apprentices nationally through out NZ in carpentry. Mark has extensive knowledge of building and construction qualifications in New Zealand.

Mark comes from a Rugby Union background where he played premiere rugby in Wellington and represented Wellington Maori at a provincial level. Mark no longer plays however coached at a senior level before arriving in Australia.

Paul has compiled an array of building and construction experience since 1987 that supports his ability to deliver quality interactive training lectures, facilitate learning for others and manage training for the Master Builders across NSW. Pauls entrepreneurial skills have been honed through his completion of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) through the University of Technology, Sydney in 2006. Paul has successfully made the Master Builders Training Department the envy of its competitors with his energetic and growing training team. Paul is a carpenter by trade and also holds a Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction along with a Certificate IV and Diploma in training and Assessment (TAA).

Safety Training Officer

Peter began a carpentry apprenticeship in West Australia and after two years entered the Royal Australian Navy aircraft engineering branch. Served on Australian and British aircraft carriers. Progressing through promotions to Naval Officer status in 1978, resigning after 26 years service in 1989. He returned to the building industry and became employed as Training Manager, Construction Industry Advisory Board of NSW in 1990. Then joined MBA in 1995 as a Safety Officer and trainer, also becoming involved various WorkCover projects and working parties on legislative change publications and safety initiatives.

Currently, Peter is working in the Training Department as an accredited Senior Safety Training Officer with eighteen continuous years of Construction Industry Occupational Health and safety training experience. Providing training in National OHS Induction, OHS Consultation, General Asbestos Awareness, Bonded Asbestos Removal and Supervisors requirements. Working closely with WorkCover Authority on asbestos removal policy. To achieve national legislation harmony. Acting as secretary to the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association of NSW.

Peter has attained National Certificates IV in Workplace Safety and Training and Skills Assessment and is WorkCover accredited and approved to conduct asbestos related work and licensing training.Peter has two sons, both in aircraft engineering and four grandchildren. His interests revolve around home renovation, woodwork, reading, hiking, kayaking, boating and travelling.

Specialist Contractors Coordinator

Wendy has 15 years experience in marketing, event management and client liaison areas in both private sector and government environment. Having worked in the IT, sports and education industries, Wendy has finally found an industry that she has passion with - the building and construction industry! Although Wendy doesn’t know how to build a house herself, she knows how to talk to people who know the business!

Wendy was born and raised in Hong Kong. She landed on the Aussie land in 2005 and fell in love with the place since. Wendy has both Balchelors and Masters degree in Sports & Recreation Management from University of Hong Kong and Victoria University in Melbourne.

Wendy loves sports… especially outdoor sports! Swimming, bike riding, tennis, golf etc…
